WWII B-24 Bomber Crew Travels to Willow Run to Meet the Rosies Who Built Their Planes!

An incredible meeting took place at the former Willow Run Bomber Plant on Friday, June 22, 2018 when members of the 449th Bomb Group Association, including two WWII veterans, traveled to the famous Willow Run Bomber Plant to meet some of the Rosie the Riveters who built their planes.

The 449th Bomb Group was stationed in Grottaglie, Italy during WWII and flew B-24 Liberator bombers almost exclusively. Many of their planes were built at Willow Run.

Veterans, Rosies and their friends enjoyed lunch at the fabulous Bomber Restaurant in Ypsilanti, followed by a VIP tour of the former Willow Run Bomber Plant personally guided by Yankee Air Museum founder Dennis Norton.

It was an unforgettable experience for everyone present to tread the hallowed ground of Willow Run with the women who built the planes, and heroic men who flew them.
