ARRA / Willow Run brought 4 original WWII Rosie the Riveters to the Portland Library for a speaker panel presentation that was very well-received by the crowd.

A couple of carloads of World War II Rosie the Riveters and their Guardians and friends set out on a road trip for Portland, MI on Saturday, May 19, 2018. After a lunch stop at Fowlerville Farms restaurant, where of course the wait staff and patrons all wanted to “meet Rosie,” the Rosies arrived at Portland. MI Public Library, where they participated in a speaker panel moderated by American Rosie the Riveter Association (ARRA) Willow Run Chapter.

After explaining the origin of the “Rosie the Riveter” character and the critical role that women played in producing war materiel for the Allied forces in WWII, the Rosies themselves wowed the audience with their accounts of how and why they got involved with critical war production work, and what it was like to be young and to live through the historic events of WWII.
